Flight Centre Limited’s Board of Directors today announced the appointment of a new chief financial officer.
Shannon O’Brien has been promoted to the CFO role after four years as a senior executive with Flight Centre Limited and more than 10 years in finance and leadership roles.
Mr O’Brien, 35, started his Flight Centre Limited career as chief financial officer of the company’s Australian retail and product divisions in 2001, before spending 18 months as general manager of Flight Centre Limited’s $1 billion-a-year sales Australian corporate division.
During this time, he expanded the business, oversaw the Australian launch of FCm Travel Solutions and the development of a new corporate business strategy. Prior to joining Flight Centre Limited, Mr O’Brien held financial controller positions with MSX International and Shell Coal.
As Flight Centre Limited’s chief financial officer, he will report to the company’s executive chairman, Graham Turner.
“We are delighted to welcome Shannon to the role and look forward to his contributions as CFO as our company enters a new phase of growth,” Mr Turner said.
“Shannon has a strong background in senior financial roles and also in an operational capacity, proven leadership ability and great business acumen. He also has a great understanding of our business, having been heavily involved in day-to-day operations in both our retail and corporate operations.”
Mr O’Brien succeeds Jim Sturgess, who last month announced his intention to take on a new role within the company. Mr Sturgess will become global procurement leader and will develop an improved international purchasing framework for the company.
He will work alongside Mr O’Brien while the company finalises its results for 2004/05.
